Why become a caregiver?

Benefits of caregiving

Caregiving is not just a job—it’s companionship, relationship, and love. For people with different abilities or age-related mobility issues, dedicated caregivers mean the difference between existing and living.

The benefits of caregiving extend beyond the person being cared for. As many of our students and partners say, caregiving made their own lives richer and more fulfilling, too.

There are also practical reasons to improve your caregiving skills. We’re all going to need care someday, and the more familiar you are with caregiving as a skill and an industry, the better off you and your loved ones will be.

Caregiving can also be a great part-time job with location and time flexibility. Just be sure that you work with a vetted care agency that is committed to fair work conditions and quality of care.

Benefits of caregiving

Caregiving has so many benefits! We’ve seen it in the lives of our students and partners as well as the many caregivers that the CIP team has personally hired over the years within our own homes.

There are many types of caregiving, and you can find a path that fits your schedule, skills, and passions.

We’ll be honest: caregiving is not a glamorous job in many respects. It can be physically and emotionally demanding, and many employing agencies take advantage of their staff and provide subpar care to their clients. But the CIP is working to change that.

Through advocacy and education, we are helping people recognize caregiving as a professional career path—with proper pay, certifications, and room for growth. We want to help you succeed so that you can reap the many benefits of this fulfilling calling.

Caregiving helped me to form a wonderful relationship with [Drew] and to see how important that is in the medical world. Because a lot of times, that’s what people need: a friendly face—someone to listen to them and to talk and to laugh.
